Mumbai Clinches First Victory of the Season at Wankhede, KKR Bundled Out for 116
In the 12th match of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the season by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets. Mumbai’s bowlers put up a stellar performance, restricting Kolkata to just 116 runs, which Mumbai chased down in 12.5 overs.
The highlight of the match was Ashwani Kumar, who created history by taking 4 wickets in his IPL debut.
KKR’s Innings – 116 All Out (16.2 Overs)
Mumbai Indians’ skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that proved absolutely right.
KKR had a disastrous start. Sunil Narine was dismissed for a duck, while Quinton de Kock managed only 1 run. Captain Ajinkya Rahane (11) and Venkatesh Iyer (3) also fell cheaply.
Even after the powerplay, KKR's batting collapse continued. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 26 runs off 16 balls, but couldn’t capitalize on his start. Rinku Singh (17) and Manish Pandey (19) showed some resistance but failed to accelerate.
Ramandeep Singh (22) played a few good shots, but the team was eventually bowled out for 116 runs.
For Mumbai, Ashwani Kumar shined with 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Deepak Chahar picked up 2 wickets, while Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, and Will Jacks claimed one wicket each.
Mumbai Indians’ Chase – 121/2 (12.5 Overs)
Chasing a small target, Mumbai Indians comfortably reached 121 runs in 12.5 overs, securing an easy win.
The team lost Rohit Sharma (13) early, as he once again failed to make an impact. Andre Russell dismissed him.
However, on the other end, Ryan Rickelton played a brilliant knock, scoring 62 runs off 41 balls. Will Jacks (16 runs) couldn’t contribute much and fell to Russell.
Then came Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed 27 runs off just 9 balls, finishing the match in style with a six, giving Mumbai their first victory of IPL 2025.
For KKR, Andre Russell took 2 wickets, while Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Spencer Johnson, and Harshit Rana failed to pick up any.
